After a five-year hiatus, the United Way of Eddy County’s Seventh Annual Day of Caring will be held on Sept. 12, 2024. Local businesses and industry partners will pick up a paint brush, shovel or gloves and make a difference by assisting an area nonprofit with completing a wide variety of projects.
This year’s event is being sponsored by Mewbourne Oil Company and Devon Energy. Sponsorship funding will be used for equipment purchased during Day of Caring. P&R Enterprises is sponsoring the event T-shirts, while Carlsbad Medical Center and Artesia General Hospital are generously providing meals.
“We are so excited to see the Day of Caring event back in Eddy County,” said Kyle Marksteiner, executive director of the United Way of Eddy County. “A key point to our effort over the past year has been to restore important projects such as Day of Caring that stopped during COVID. Many of these nonprofits are so busy offering their critical services to the residents of Eddy County that they don’t always get around to resolving major projects around their facilities.”
Furthermore, for the first time ever, the 2024 Day of Caring will be countywide, with ten nonprofit agencies from Artesia and Carlsbad participating. The event will kick off at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast (at the Boys & Girls Club in Carlsbad and at Artesia General Hospital in Artesia). From there, teams will leave for projects around Eddy County. Participating nonprofits include Haven of Hope, Oasis Women’s Services, SNMCAC, CASA, the Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter, CARC, Carlsbad MainStreet, Affirming Hearts Victim Services, LifeHouse and the United Way of Eddy County. Lunch will be provided during the “shift change” between morning and afternoon work.
“Our company and employees are proud to support and participate in this year’s Day of Caring in Eddy County, and United Way’s efforts to effectively collaborate and engage with multiple industries and entities is something to acknowledge,” said Meghan Mooney, Mewbourne Oil Company Community Relations Coordinator. “Mewbourne Oil Company is committed to this community, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to volunteer alongside others living and working here!”
“Devon Energy is excited to partner with United Way to assist non-profits in Eddy County with projects that will enhance their environments and their services. Our company is committed to giving back to the communities where we operate, and this is a great way to get more engaged!” said Molly Young, with Devon Energy Community Relations.
In addition to title sponsors Mewbourne and Devon, and T-shirt sponsor P&R Enterprises, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Intrepid, Permian Resources, SIMCO, Flogistix and the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad will be participating. While additional teams are not needed at this time, individuals who wish to volunteer may assist with the overall Day of Caring event.
