Tis the Season for a Busy Holiday Schedule

Dear Neighbors & Friends:

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays! As we gather with loved ones to reflect on all we’re grateful for, I want to take a moment to share my appreciation for this incredible community. Carlsbad is a city filled with compassion, resilience, and a spirit of togetherness, and I am honored to serve as your Mayor.

This holiday season, I invite everyone to come together on Saturday, November 30, for a day full of festive activities as we officially kick off Christmas in Carlsbad. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, and I hope you’ll join in the fun!

The day begins bright and early with the Eddy County CASA 5k Fun Run at Carlsbad Beach at 8 a.m. This is a fantastic way to get active and support CASA’s meaningful work in our community. I encourage everyone to shop local for Small Business Saturday throughout the day. Supporting our local shops and businesses is one of the best ways to give back to Carlsbad and ensure our small businesses thrive during this holiday season.

In the afternoon, stroll downtown from 2 to 4 p.m. to hear the beautiful sounds of the Early College High School Choir Christmas Caroling. Then, head to Halagueno Arts Park for an evening filled with lights and celebration. From 5 to 7 p.m., the Creative Carlsbad Arts Council will host the Night of Lights, showcasing the park and our holiday spirit. I want to thank the Creative Carlsbad Arts Council for their dedication to putting this event together each year—it’s always a wonderful way to celebrate the season.

This year, the Night of Lights will also mark a special milestone for me: my very first Christmas tree lighting as your Mayor. I am so excited to light the tree at Halagueno Arts Park and to share this memorable experience with all of you.

At 7 p.m., Carlsbad’s streets will light up with this year’s Carlsbad MainStreet Electric Light Parade, featuring the whimsical theme of Candy Land! Thank you to MainStreet Director Kat Davis for organizing this year’s parade—Kat and her team always outdo themselves, and I know this year’s event will be no exception.

Finally, the evening will conclude at Carlsbad Beach with the Chamber of Commerce Tree Lighting at 9 p.m. I want to thank Chamber CEO Chad Ingram and his dedicated staff for their efforts in lighting the tree and organizing Christmas on the Pecos, another beloved tradition that brings so much joy to residents and visitors alike.

Remember to care for our furry friends during the colder months as we enjoy the festivities. Ensure pets have warm shelter, fresh water, and protection from freezing temperatures. Our local shelters also appreciate donations of food, blankets, or funds to help animals in need this winter.

This is truly a season to cherish, and I hope you’ll participate in these wonderful events. From shopping locally to cheering on the parade, every small action contributes to the strong sense of community that makes Carlsbad special.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Mayor. I look forward to seeing you at this year’s holiday activities, and I wish each of you a safe, joyful, and memorable start to the holiday season.

Warm regards,

Mayor Rick Lopez
