Graveside services for Dan Roy Reddy, 87, of Alamogordo, NM, and formerly of Carlsbad, NM, will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Carlsbad Cemetery Gazebo.
Dan was born in Carlsbad, NM, on October 2, 1937 to Robert Roy Reddy and Inda Rhea (Murrill) Reddy and passed away at his home on November 15, 2024. He grew up in Carlsbad, graduating from Carlsbad High School in 1955. Dan then joined the U.S. Navy and served as a radar operator. With his service time served, he returned home with the intention of going to college. In the meantime, he met Barbara Holland and they were married on February 16, 1961 in Carlsbad and have shared life and love for almost 64 years together. They moved to Las Cruces to attend college and in 1965 with his civil engineering degree from NMSU in hand, they moved to Houston where Dan was employed by USGS for 3 years followed by San Antonio for 3 years and then Albuquerque, NM, where he was employed by the city as assistant water engineer. Returning home to his roots in Carlsbad in 1976, Dan and Barbara started their own “consulting engineer” business doing mostly land surveying for the next 42 years. Dan earned the reputation of being a very honest and reputable man and he stood tall as he gave the best service he could. He had a big heart and loved his family very much. Dan had a fun-loving spirit, a sharp intelligence, made friends easily and remembered the good jokes. Poetry was very special to Dan and he could memorize it quickly and loved sharing it at some very interesting times.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, David Reddy; granddaughter, Rachael Murphy Reddy; one brother and sister-in-law, George and Betty Reddy.
Surviving him is his wife, Barbara Reddy of the home; son, Paul and Roxann Reddy of Lubbock, Texas, and daughter, Robbie and Jon Kizer of Clarks Summit, PA; sister, Robbie Sue and Wilson Holman of Las Cruces, NM; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Also surviving Dan are two of his long-time and best friends who were more than friends and more like brothers to him. They grew up together and have the type of friendship that lives forever. Always there for each other – Wayne “Clutch” Kelly and Jerry Collier – always the best of the best!
Our heartfelt thanks to Alan Wood and Denton-Wood Funeral Home for their kindness and excellent service in our time of need.
