The New Year typically brings with it resolutions. If one of yours includes tidying up the home, Jean Prominski, a Certified Professional Organizer and ADHD Coach with Sparkle Home Organizing, may be able to assist you on the journey to declutter your space.
“I like to know where my stuff is, and I like to help other people know, too,” Prominski said. “Visually, I love to see a mess go away,” she added.
Prominski shared that there are the chronically disorganized—those who tend to always have clutter—and those who are situationally disorganized. These individuals have had a life-changing event happen where a section of clutter is there because of something sudden. This can create an emotional connection to the clutter, therefore, for some, making it difficult to deal with. As a nationally recognized expert in home organizing and ADHD skill-building, she takes an empathetic approach to helping clients achieve long-term success using practical and sustainable methods.
With a background in art, Prominski is fascinated by how people interact with their environments. A member of the Artist Gallery in downtown Carlsbad, Prominski is showcasing her “Color to Declutter” series, which is inspired by Dr. Masaru Emoto, who experimented with exposing water to different words and environments, then freezing it to see how the water crystals would form. This current series focuses on color, pattern, and intention, hoping that it will help the individual declutter and harmonize the energy in the home. Using watercolor, paper, and wood, Prominski charges her work with Reiki energy to assist with the home’s Feng Shui.
Carlsbad resident Eve Flanigan shared her experience, “I got to participate in something out of the ordinary for me. Jean Prominski with Sparkle Home Organizing took on my laundry room cabinets, which were ‘I Love Lucy’ style, if you know what I mean, holding 14 years of accumulated miscellany, even after I’d done an initial toss/donate session. Four hours later, I had a totally organized, labeled, sensible laundry room. Jean was so sweet and non-judgmental about the stuff! She even made a place and a method for me to keep the bittersweet mementos I didn’t want to part with. And the whole process was just so natural. Jean is a real master of her trade!” “I’m here to help people go through their belongings; they don’t need to go through all their stuff before I come over,” Prominski advised. “It’s collaborative work. Most of the time, we work together,” she added regarding how the work gets done. She also shared that going through the clutter and disorganization of a space can put people in a vulnerable state, and she’s always grateful to be able to help.
Offering a judgment-free service, Prominski loves helping people find what they lost. “If we don’t find the seed of the problem, the clutter will continue,” she said. She offers tips for organizing, like the black hole box. This is for things you don’t want to deal with at the moment, as they invoke deep or powerful memories. Don’t let those items hold you up from progress; rather, set them aside in their own special box and keep going. She also encourages individuals to tune into their own intuition about whether or not to keep an item and, if needed, consider if it is taking up high-value real estate and if that item is worth taking up that kind of space.
Prominski has a genuine interest in home organization and offers many tips on her website. There are links to numerous articles she’s contributed to, including magazines such as Homes and Gardens, Martha Stewart, and Southern Living, to name a few.
