Pecos River Brand Co., which offers a variety of services and branded merchandise, is most recently heralded for developing the Christmas on the Pecos mascots.
The company focuses on creating solutions in the best interests of its clients. The company also serves other local clients and engages in event planning.
“We are a local creative agency. We have about 20-plus years of experience in branded promotional products and kind of connecting brands with a story,” said Brittany Walterscheid, owner/operator of Pecos River Brand Co. She said a digital aspect was added recently, making PRBC a digital marketing company as well.
“I basically help businesses elevate their brand through a strategy through either branding, marketing, or promotional merch. We like to work on a marketing calendar with our customers,” said Brittany, mentioning that PRBC also does event planning, “Because we’re local, we just have a heartbeat on what’s happening in the city.”
The company opened about eight years ago when the Walterscheid family moved to Carlsbad, said Brittany. Her husband, Adam Walterscheid, is from Carlsbad and runs a robotic lawn care company in town, Auto Mow Co. The couple has a nine-year-old son, Doak, and a seven-year-old daughter, Lucy.
“We are entrepreneurs,” said Brittany. “We were both in this industry in Texas, sold our business, moved here, and with the entrepreneurial spirit, started up these two businesses,” she said.
Brittany said she works with Jill Barkley at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce as a client. “Last year, they asked PRBC to do their website. I did the merchandise the year before, so the merchandise they have in the store, we created the art and then produced it,” said Brittany. The next year, she said, the Chamber asked for a design with a more cartoon look.
As a solution, Brittany said that PRBC created a mascot and licensed it to the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce to promote Christmas on the Pecos. “It ended up being an elf. The Chamber named it ‘Ripple,’” she said.
“We created the first artwork. We had him skiing down the Pecos River. We had the house in the background; we were just kind of formulating the Christmas on the Pecos experience through this character,” said Brittany.
“When they asked me to do the website, I was able to incorporate and start using that character through the website where he is kind of telling the story of Christmas on the Pecos,” Brittany said, adding it was a “soft launch” of this character.
“This year, PRBC was awarded the digital strategy for Christmas on the Pecos. This year, we are actually bringing him to life, and we’re giving him a voice,” said Brittany.
Brittany said she had her kids listen to the voice on the video being produced; their eyes lit up, and they had huge smiles. “I’m pretty excited about it.”
She said her kids see the business’s day-to-day operations and, after working with the mascot for two years, “They know Ripple; we have stuffed toys of Ripple. They are already making a connection with Christmas on the Pecos.”
A roadrunner was also created to be Ripple’s sidekick using the state bird to make a connection to New Mexico, she said. “The Chamber named him ‘Chile.’”
The ultimate goal is for people to have a connection to Christmas on the Pecos through one voice for the event, Brittany said.
