Karyn D. Funk, 76, of Fountain Drive, Carlsbad, NM, passed away October 29, 2024 at her home. Visitation will be 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, November 1, 2024 at Queen Cemetery with Pastor Mike Bingham officiating. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Karyn was born February 16, 1948 in Carlsbad, NM, to Joel and Betty Jean (Riley) Farrell. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1966. Karyn married Jimmy Ray Funk November 15, 1967 in Fayetteville, NC before Jimmy Ray left for Vietnam. She worked at the health office for many years before retiring. Karyn was an avid painter and reader. She and Jimmy Ray both were charter members of the Queen Volunteer Fire Department. Karyn was a long-time member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her father, Joel “Bart” Farrell; husband, Jimmy Ray Funk; step-father, Jay Walters; brothers: David and Alan Walters.

Survivors are her children: Chris Funk and wife, Char, D.D. Janway, and James “Quest” Funk; mother, Betty Jean Walters; grandchildren: Brannen Wells, Amanda Funk, Vickie Funk, Lanie Cartwright, Kim Martinez, Austin Barton, Garrett Miller, Scotti Janway, and Kaitlyn Zuniga; great-grandchildren: Hunter Wells, Dakota Wells, Tayten Adkins, Danika Hiles, Jacob Barton, Sage Miller, and Emily Miller; brother, Kenny Walters and wife, Sandra; sisters-in-law: Sharon Funk, Linda McFarland, and Faye Benefield, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosendo A. “Rosie” Fuentez, 94, of Haston Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024 at his home. Visitation will be 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Saturday November 2, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Orlando Vigil officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Rosie was born March 1, 1930 in Balmorhea, Texas, to Pedro and Maria Ignacia (Amalla) Fuentez. He married Francisca Rodriguez February 20, 1949, here in Carlsbad. In 1969, Rosendo and Francisca opened Carlsbad Radiator Service which they operated for 30 years until retiring. Rosie’s work ethic contributed to his success in his business. He was baptized in 1963 in the Jehovah Witnesses congregation. Rosie served as a ministerial servant, elder, and was a regular pioneer. He helped on numerous building projects for Kingdom Halls throughout New Mexico and Texas. Rosie was a friend to all and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Francisca Fuentez; daughter, Guadalupe Vasquez; sons: Adan and Rosendo Fuentez; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors are his daughters: Teresa Valenzuela of Carlsbad, NM, Yolanda Villegas and husband, Jessie of Carlsbad, NM, Isabel Badillo and husband, J.B. of Odessa, TX, Eva Fuentez of Carlsbad, NM, Cecelia Hobbs and husband, Jack of C



arlsbad, NM; son, Obed Fuentez and wife, Monica of Carlsbad, NM; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter; sister, Maria Chavez and husband, Pablo of Hobbs, NM; sister-in-law, Mary Fuentez of Pecos, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Fuentez, Jessie Villegas, Giovanni Villegas, Jack Hobbs, Michael Harper, and Nathaniel Villegas. Honorary pallbearers are Nicholas Fuentez, Alejandro Fuentez, Jose Vasquez, Obed Fuentez, Nathan Harper, and John Badillo.
