CHS Tennis Teams Sweep Clovis High

                The Cavemen and Cavegirl tennis teams opened up District 4/5A play, here in the Cavern City, on Thursday, April 10, against the Clovis Wildcats. For Carlsbad High, the results couldn't have been better.

                The Cavemen shut-out the Clovis 9-0 while the Cavegirls rolled over the Cats 7-2.

                "All the hard work our kids have put in this year has been geared toward the start of our district season," said Carlsbad High assistant coach Diamond Morrill. "And as we can all see now, all the hard work our kids have been putting in paid off."

                "We couldn't have gotten off to a better start. Getting victories over Clovis, in both boys and girls divisions was big for us," she said. "We still have a long way to go but picking up two wins, in our first conference match of the season, has given our kids a great shot of confidence."

                While Morrill said the CHS coaching staff was more than pleased with the efforts they saw from all their kids in upending Clovis, a few kids drew special praise.

                "On the boys side Alex Burns and Gavin Otto played really well for us," said the CHS coach. "As for the girls we got  great efforts from Nakia Thomas in singles and doubles. Charise Young also enjoyed a great afternoon of tennis."

                The Cavemen and Cavegirls had their final tune up for their District inaugural against Organ Mt., on Tuesday, April 8.

                In the dual meet the Cavemen downed Organ Mt. 7-2. In girls competition the Cavegirls lost to the Knights 1-8.

                Both the Cavemen and Cavegirls were scheduled to take on the Roswell Coyotes, for their second conference meet of the season, on Thursday, April 17. Results of those matches will be posted in the April 25 edition of the Carlsbad Local.
