CHS Tennis Teams Open 2025 in El Paso

The Cavemen and Cavegirl tennis teams officially opened the 2025 season at the El Paso Austin Invitational on Friday and Saturday, February 14-15.

According to CHS assistant coach Diamond Morrill, they’ve all been anxiously awaiting their season inaugural in El Paso, and as she saw it, it was a very successful one.

“We are officially into our tennis season, and it feels great! We’ve been practicing and focusing on the El Paso Austin Invitational since the beginning of January,” said an excited coach Morrill. “Overall, for it being their first tournament of the year, our kids played really well.

“Both squads this year are filled with experienced players, which excites us. Five of our top seven Cavegirls—Olivia Glissen, Claire Navarrete, Ethni Florez, Sara Jones, and Nakia Thomas—are seniors, as are four of our top seven Cavemen—Evan Antiporda, Jose Gomez-Simon, Moses Mendoza, and Gavin Otto.

“We also have some new kids that have moved up in our rankings,” added Morrill. “Getting them the experience they need in order to be successful and ready for district play will be a priority for us during the next several weeks.”

CHS returned from the Sun City, having represented Carlsbad well. The following is a list of El Paso Invitational results:

Boys’ Doubles: Alex Burns and Steven Pham: 2-2 “B” Bracket; Moses Mendoza and Gavin Otto: 3-1 Consolation Winners in “A” Bracket

Girls’ Doubles: Sara Jones and Claire Navarrete: 3-1 Consolation Winners in “A” Bracket; Charise (Reese) Young and Sydney Azzinaro: 3-1 Consolation Winners in “B” Bracket

Boys’ Singles: Lucas Bluth: 2-2 fourth place in “A” Bracket; Evan Antiporda: 2-2 fourth place in “B” Bracket

Girls’ Singles: Olivia Glissen: 2-2 in “A” Bracket; Myka Char: 2-2 in “B” Bracket

Mixed Doubles: Jose Gomez and Ethni Florez: 1-3 in “A” Bracket

On February 21-22, the CHS tennis teams will travel to Albuquerque to compete in the State-Wide Invitational.
