Hoping to log their second District 4/5A win of the season, the Carlsbad Cavemen dropped a tough one, 47-43, to the Roswell Coyotes in the Cavern City on Friday night, January 31.
Despite a 15-point, 14-rebound effort from 6’4” forward Shane Sullivan, the Cavemen couldn’t overcome the Coyotes down the stretch. Down 25-18 at the half, CHS closed the gap to just one, 31-30, at the end of the third. But Roswell held on to edge the Cavemen 16-14 in the fourth to collect the 47-44 win.
Although CHS was able to hit 57 percent of their two-point field goals, 16 of 28, a cold night from beyond the arc, 2 of 14, and the free throw line, 6 of 13, proved to be the difference.
Other scoring leaders for CHS were Jacob Chavarria with nine points and Kyran Orgain with seven.
The loss dropped CHS’s district record to 1-1. On the season, they’re 15-7.
