Carlsbad High's Cavegirls volleyball team has lost two of their last three matches to fall to 6-7 on the year. But, despite dropping two, CHS appears to be moving in the right direction under new head coach Taylor Hardison.
On Friday night, September 20, in Carlsbad, the Cavegirls fell to the Las Cruces Bulldawgs, 3-0, but on Saturday, September 21, they rallied to sink the Organ Mt. Knights 3-2.
Down 2-1 after three sets, the Cavegirls outdistanced the Knights 25-16 in the fourth and 15-8 in the fifth to grab the win.
However, CHS wouldn't be able to chalk up two victories in a row. On Tuesday, September 24, in the Cavern City, the Cavegirls lost to the Artesia Bulldogs 3-1.
Picking up the win was in no way an easy task for the Bulldogs, though. They slipped by CHS 27-25, 25-23, 20-25, and 27-25.
In comparison, in their first meeting this season on August 27 in Artesia, the Bulldogs swamped the Cavegirls 25-8, 25-12, and 25-5 to win in straight sets, 3-0.
The Cavegirls will open District 4/5A play on Tuesday, October 15, against the Clovis Wildcats in Clovis. With three more pre-conference games remaining on their schedule, the Cavegirls just might be ready to make a legitimate run for this year's district title.
Next up for CHS will be Chaparral on Saturday, September 28, in Chaparral.
